Fatafeat, Warner Bros. Discovery’s largest Arabic food network, has closed Phase 1 of Star Chef, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for culinary enthusiasts to compete in its region-wide cooking competition show. Star Chef features celebrities Chef Mohammad Orfali and Chef Tarek Ibrahim as judges.
Phase 1 included social media auditions for contenders, having first announced it on August 2.
Fatafeat is now commencing Phase 2, where the shortlisted eight aspiring chefs from all over the MENA region will partake in a four-week-long culinary talent show.
From 18 September to 15 October, contestants will face weekly challenges and elimination rounds. Based on audience’s and judges’ votes, only four contestants will proceed to the semi-finals, where they will be invited to a cook-off at the Fatafeat studio in Dubai.
The following is the list of the weekly match-ups:
Week 1
Ahmed Ismaeel, Egyptian, a graphic designer with a passion for cooking.
Nada Habib, Egyptian, mother of two who left her full-time job after 12 years to pursue her love for cooking.
Week 2
Syma Hamasni, Lebanese, who learnt how to cook from her father who taught her cooking should always involve love and passion, and that food is a way to evoke pleasant emotions and memories.
Raghid Abbara, Syrian, a Dubai-based marketeer and social media expert in the F&B industry.
Week 3
Hanna Sabbah, Lebanese, an Instagram content creator with over six years of experience in the catering industry.
Ohood Sohail, Saudi, a nutrition and food science graduate whose goal is to promote Saudi’s food culture across the region.
Week 4
Haya Al Bostani, Syrian, a food consultant and menu developer whose fondness towards Asian and Syrian cuisines inspires her cooking.
Khalil Churiteh, Syrian, a dentist who left his career to pursue his passion for food.
Viewers will be able to watch every phase of Star Chef on Fatafeat’s social media pages and, later, on its TV channel (#351 on beIN) via special episodes until the end of the year when the new Star Chef will be crowned.
