Rice with toppings has been the rage at fastfood joints and casual dining destinations across the world.

One such hearty meal combination is the Korean Bibimba served at various eateries across Dubai.

Among popular spots for this glorious meal for the hungry  is Shokudo Restaurant, located at Centurion Star Tower across from the Deira City Centre.

Bibimbap, a Korean rice dish, comes from the term “bibim” which is a verb that means “mixing” burned and cooked rice – the burned rice is place at the bottom of the bowl. “Bap” is a noun for rice itself.

Bibimbap is served as a bowl of warm white rice topped with namul, sautéed and seasoned vegetables, or kimchi, traditional fermented vegetables,  and gochujang, chili pepper paste, soy sauce, or doenjang, a fermented soybean paste.

Raw or fried egg and sliced meat, usually beef, are common add-ons. The hot dish is stirred together thoroughly just before eating.

In South Korea, JeonjuJinju, and Tongyeong are especially famous for their versions of bibimbap.

Bibimbap was, in 2011,  listed at number 40 on the World’s 50 most delicious foods readers’ poll compiled by CNN Travel.

It takes mastery to skillfully prepare bibimbap where chefs put other add-ons depending on the customer’s specs.
