A recent report by Times of India cited reasons why people should include seaweeds in their daily diet.

For one, the report citing health experts, said “the presence of antioxidants like Fucoxanthin in Seaweed can help in improving immunity and cell regeneration.

“It was also found that the intake of Seaweed helps in minimizing the effect of viral infections.”

Moreover, seaweeds, the report also stated, help in managing diabetes.

“The presence of prebiotics, fibers and antioxidants in Seaweeds can help in better management of Diabetes.

The presence of plant compounds and antioxidants like Carotenoid, Fucoxanthin helps in balancing blood sugar levels. Apart from that, the high fiber content in Seaweed also adds on to better insulin management and improved metabolism,” the report stated.

Still another health benefit of seaweeds is that it improves hormonal management and improves thyroid functions. “This is because the Thyroid glands in the body helps in regulating hormones and the presence of Iodine and amino acid Tyrosine in Seaweed helps in better hormonal management,” the report said.

Lastly but not the least important is that seaweeds also helps maintain a healthy heart by reducing high blood sugar and high blood pressure levels, the report said, citing research by the American Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.

“Also, the presence of omega-3 fatty acids in Seaweed can help in lowering bad cholesterol and improve heart health,” the report added.
